The Independence Pass Foundation leads a unique partnership effort--the Independence Pass Restoration Team. Established in 1991 with assistance from the Colorado Department of Natural Resources, this multi-disciplinary group of experts is responsible for helping develop the most effective, least costly design solutions for reclaiming the Top Cut. The group meets periodically for intensive work sessions, and members of this team assist in many ways. Pitkin County, for example, assists with hauling and stockpiling of material needed in the restoration work. The Buena Vista Correctional Facility provides inmate labor for a variety of different projects on the Pass every year.
