In 1996, when IPF undertook its first wall building project, the Independence Pass Foundation Board of Directors decided to build the stabilization walls at the Top Cut from native boulders quarried on the Pass. The Big Cut and Middle Cut Walls have used boulders quarried from a site at Weller.

Lara Schulter was among the Sierra Club volunteers from around the country who helped collect snow-fence debris from the summit of the Pass in the summer of 2005.

Volunteers carry snow-fence debris leftover from an abandoned water conservation project to stockpile location for future removal. The metal snow-fence material lies within a designated Wilderness Area and consequently must be removed by helicopter.
